Point-of-entry testing for all new offender committals continues. At this time, there no active cases of COVID within the facility.

General Information

The Pamunkey Regional Jail is a state-of-the-art facility, where all inmates are treated in a humane and constitutional manner until released. We are but one part of the Criminal Justice System, serving the needs of user agencies, law enforcement, courts, attorneys, and community organizations.

Our vision is to be an organization that has a strong value system that recognizes the inherent worth of all human beings, respects and recognizes the needs of the community, and holds the belief that, if they choose, offenders can change their lives.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)

Pamunkey Regional Jail has zero tolerance for all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment against inmates. The Pamunkey Regional Jail engages accusations of sexual assault very seriously, and therefore mandates Jail employees, contractors, and volunteers maintain a professional relationship with all persons under the supervision of the Pamunkey Regional Jail.

If you were sexually abused or sexually harassed while in custody at Pamunkey Regional Jail or know someone who was sexually abused or sexually harassed, please call 804-365-6845. All criminal acts of sexual abuse or sexual harassment will be referred to the Hanover County Sheriff's Office for investigation.

PREA Audit Report

On December 13, 14, and 15, 2021, the Pamunkey Regional Jail underwent its third audit of the Standards of the Prison Rape Elimination Act. The facility successfully met all 45 standards. A copy of the auditor's report may be viewed online.

Victim Notification Service (VINE)

The Virginia State Victim Notification Service (VINE) is a service through which victims of crime can use the telephone or Internet to search for information regarding their offender's custody status and register to receive telephone and email notification when the offender's custody status changes.

This service is brought to you by Virginia Department of Corrections and the Virginia Sheriff's Association via a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance for SAVIN that is managed by Virginia Center for Policing Innovation. The VINE toll-free number for Virginia VINE is 800-467-4943.
